IBM Room

IBM, founded in 1911, has for generations been closely associated with all things tabulation and computing. From their start making employee time clock systems, to the mainframe computers of the 1960s and 1970s, to the modern day.

This room contains examples of IBM computers and products spanning over six decades of development and history

System/360 Model 20

The IBM System/360 was a compatible family of mainframe computer systems produced for over a decade beginning in 1964. The best-selling Model 20 version was the smallest and least expensive of the computers in the line, although still occupying over half a room of space.

IBM Rotating Timeclock

IBM got it start in punch clocks and other analog workplace record keeping devices.

This device synchronizes a mechanical clock with a rotation drum-based employee punch-in system, giving us the first physical origin of the word “payroll”

IBM 1130 (Working)

The successor to the IBM 1620, the 1130 was notable for having an excellent price to performance ratio. For under $100 a month, you could rent a computer for your business with a 1 MB hard drive, a highly attractive proposition for 1965.
